On the 20th of January 2024, MWAG together with LEXTA Ghana celebrated one of the biggest dates on our calendar, Cervical Cancer Awareness launch. This was the first time the event was held in the Northern sector. The event took place at the fore court of the Tamale Teaching hospital.
Various dignitaries were invited to grace the occasion and they contributed to making it a success. Amongst those who were at the launch were; The Medical Director of Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), who doubled as the chairman of the occasion, the Deputy Northern Regional director of Public Health, Ghana Health Service, The National President of MWAG, representatives from LEXTA Ghana, Regional chairperson of GMA, some Heads of Departments of TTH, and representative from AMPATH Ghana.
The audience were made up of MWAG members, school children from 3 second cycle schools in Tamale, women’s groups, young hairdresser and tailoring apprentices and the public. The media were not left out, as the program was graced by CITI TV, Sagani TV, Filla Fm and TV3.
The first part of the program was the Launch which was filled with educational sessions, talks from various guests, poetry recital, cultural troupe performances, and a Melo- Drama on cervical cancer. It was such an educative and fun filled day. Students answered questions at the end of the sessions which proved that learning took place.
The second part of the program was free cervical cancer screening which took place at gynaecology clinic of TTH. Activities of the day ended when the last client was screened.
The launch propelled the plans MWAG -Northern sector had for the month with massive media and face to face campaigns to culminate with free cervical cancer screening of 150 women at the end of January.
